Dec 30, 2017. Where is Core Contingency and Battle Tactics? Wondering if its just me having this issue, but despite the files obviously being there, the game doesnt seem to notice both CC and Tactics are installed.
To install Total Annihilation Zero, follow the instructions below. The installation procedure differs depending on the version of Total Annihilation you have.

Digital Download versions of Total Annihilation
- Download Total Annihilation from GOG.com, Impulse, or other online retailers and install (GOG.com version highly recommended).
- Download Total Annihilation Zero and install. You will be required to also download and install the TA Patch Resources if it is not already installed, which the TA Zero installer can do automatically.
- You must ensure that your in-game resolution is set to 1024×768 or higher.
Original CD version of Total Annihilation
- Install Total Annihilation by selecting Regular Install.
- (Optional) Relaunch the installer and do the Multiplayer Spawn. If you don't do this, maps from Total Annihilation will not be available unless you have the disc inserted.
- (Optional) Install the Core Contingency and/or Battle Tactics expansion packs. The expansions are not required to play TA Zero but if you don't install them the new maps will not be available.
[Note: The expansion installers do not work on 64-bit versions of Windows, but you can install manually by copying the contents of the CC subfolder (for TA:CC) and BT subfolder (for TA:BT) from the respective disc to the game folder] - Download and install the TA 3.1c Patch.
- Download Total Annihilation Zero and install. You will be required to also download and install the TA Patch Resources if it is not already installed, which the TA Zero installer can do automatically.
- You must ensure that your in-game resolution is set to 1024×768 or higher.
Notes
- Total Annihilation Zero installs to its own subfolder and does not overwrite or modify Total Annihilation nor does it conflict with other mods in any way.
- Total Annihilation Zero requires 1024×768 or higher in-game resolution. If you select a lower resolution, the game will crash when you select your Commander. It is recommended to select your display's native resolution. All resolutions and aspect ratios are supported by the game.
- If you have Windows 7 and have selected a desktop theme with rotating backgrounds, you should disable the desktop slideshow or switch to a desktop theme with a static background before playing Total Annihilation Zero (or Total Annihilation). If you don't, graphical anomalies will occur while playing whenever the desktop background changes.
- Do not set a compatibility mode (such as Windows 95, Windows XP, etc.) as it is not necessary and may disable the megamap and artificially limit the list of available in-game resolutions.
- Do not play in windowed mode unless necessary as many new features such as the megamap, line building, whiteboard marking, and multiplayer ally resource bars only work in fullscreen mode. In addition, the frame rate will be much lower in windowed mode compared to fullscreen mode due to the lack of hardware acceleration in windowed mode combined with TA Zero's high system requirements compared to Total Annihilation.
- Do not attempt to install the expansion packs or 3.1c patch to the GOG.com, Impulse, or other digital download versions of Total Annihilation – these features are already included.
- Even if you have the CD version of Total Annihilation, the disc does not need to be inserted to play Total Annihilation Zero. However, as noted above, the original maps will not be available without the disc inserted unless you performed the Multiplayer Spawn prior to installing TA Zero.
Did Total Annihilation really need expanding?
Developer Cavedog seems to think so. But then again we probably shouldn’t even be that surprised. You don’t make a wildly successful game like Total Annihilation without producing a follow-up expansion. The Core Contingency is Cavedog’s first add-on to the original game, and its content manages to impress despite TA’s already voluminous amount of content. The CD has two new campaigns and 75 more units overall, spanning the spectrum of land, air, and sea warfare.
Both Arm and the Core get new naval units, Seaplanes, and naval structures such as Advanced Torpedo Launchers, Floating Dragon’s Teeth (does anyone use these?), and buoyant laser and anti-aircraft towers. But those are not the only Waterworld extras; Cavedog has thrown a whole new class of units into the mix: the Hovercraft. Part seaplane, part anti-grav vehicle, these are nifty, if not downright necessary, for navigating some of the new levels.
Want more explosions? You got ’em.

Hoi4 good division templates. Land units are also notable. You can now deceive your carbon-based lifeform opponents with Decoy Commanders and protect your base with minelayers. All this pales, however, in comparison to the Krogoth. A Core unit standing five times taller than a Commander, this bad boy is the Godzilla mech of the Total Annihilation universe. But Core Contingency isn’t just about units. Loading the CD will pop 50 new multiplayer maps, 25 campaign missions (12 Arm, 12 Core), and six new worlds onto your hard drive. Lego chess mac. And better still, you even get a mission editor! Expansion pack don’t often come this meaty, but when they do it’s a real treat.
